The truth is, you're almost certainly going about things the wrong way. Probably because you've been getting bad advice.

The most possible Gold in the least amount of time . . .

When I started playing World of Warcraft over 4 years ago, I was in the same boat as everyone else. I figured that the grinding-farming-camping routine was the way things were meant to be. It felt like torture, but we all had to work through it if we wanted to get ahead in Azeroth.

I'll never forget the 10-hour marathon sessions I spent slaughtering Scalding Whelps in the Badlands, skinning for Dragonscale, and praying for the ultra-rare Dark Whelpling (although we called it a Tiny Black Whelpling in those days).

By putting in long hours on acquiring Gold, I managed to cope with the cost of leveling, training, and day-to-day survival. Yet I never managed to save up much. I even had to borrow Gold from my guild to get my first mount. Sound familiar?

As much as I loved playing WoW, I have to admit I resented the huge amount of time I was forced to waste on getting Gold. And being basically a lazy person, I decided I simply had to find a shortcut, a quicker and easier way to get Gold - or I would have to quit playing.

So I started researching the problem. I asked everyone I knew if they had any tips for getting Gold fast. I scoured the forums for ideas, and I even bought a Gold Guide I found for sale on eBay. And I started testing every method I discovered. A few things worked pretty well, but most of the tricks were pointless... they were too slow, or they didn't work at all.

The Secret of Success with Gold . . .

Before long, I realized that one thing worked better than anything else. And that was the testing itself!

I found that if I tracked exactly how much time I spent on a particular Gold making activity, and followed it through to completion - the moment when I actually got the cash into my toon's backpack - then I could measure and compare the quickest ways of making Gold with complete accuracy. I calculated the returns from each technique I tried, put it into a Gold-per-Hour rating (GPH), and ditched the "tried-and-true" methods that everyone else said were the big money makers.

If I made 7 GPH grinding the Ogres around the ruins in Tanaris, but I could get 9 GPH by working the nearby Southsea Pirates, I knew for certain where to spend my time for maximum profit. I compared Scarlet Monastery instance runs to fishing for Deviate Fish, mining circuits in Burning Steppes vs. herbing routes in Felwood.

All this testing became an obsession. Even after I started accumulating very large Gold balances on several of my characters, I kept testing and measuring, trying to get to the Holy Grail: how to make the most possible Gold in the least possible amount of time.

The Massive Gold Blueprint method . . .

Where is all this leading? Well, to cut a long story short, it led straight to the Auction House.

This wasn't exactly a unique insight. Many successful players before me had built their fortunes on Auction House profits. After all, that's where the action always ends up. You've got to sell your stuff to other players to profit from any of your Gold-making efforts. And the Auction House is where that usually happens.

But here's where it gets interesting: because I was so fixated on the concept of Gold-per-Hour, comparing different Gold-making methods head to head, I made an amazing discovery. This really was a revelation, and it completely changed my understanding of the World of Warcraft economy and how to take advantage of it.

Here's what I discovered. Once you have a good handle on playing the Auction House, you can make TWICE AS MUCH Gold per hour by simply sitting in the Auction House buying and selling goods, compared to any other activity you can think of in WoW. Twice as much!

That was an eye opener for me. But that's not all. I also discovered that the most efficient way to play the Auction House is to dedicate a team of characters specifically to auction activities. You actually LOSE money by trying to work your established higher-level toons into the mix.

I'm not talking about a single "mule" character that you park in Ironforge or Orgrimmar. I've tested and tweaked my way to an optimal set-up of six alt characters, stationed in specific locations where they become the backbone of a system of "Profit Pipelines" . . . an underground system that works like crazy.

The discovery that changed my WoW gaming life . . .

Nowadays, I spend 1 - 2 hours per day on Gold-making activities in the Auction Houses on the two servers I play regularly. I make a comfortable 5,000 to 10,000 Gold per week. I know I could make five times as much if I wanted to put in 8 hours a day at the Auction House. But what would be the point?
